Contouring & Highlighting Made Simple

I will be discussing the contour & highlight craze! This technique has been done by professional makeup artist for years, it hasn't received this much attention from the public eye until a couple of years ago.  The main concern and the most requested tutorial I receive from clients and viewers is how to contour and highlight. I know if you are not a professional makeup artist it can be a little confusing specially because of all the designs that makeup artist are doing to visualize where the contour and highlight should be placed and/or when to use cream foundation and powders and how to set everything in place and make sure it blends together perfectly. Overwhelming, right?

When you contour you are adding dimension to your face by shadowing and highlighting. If you want to sink in or add definition to your face like bringing out your cheekbones use a darker shade (Dark brown). If you want an area to stand out use a lighter shade (Concealer 2-3 shades lighter than your skin color). When you contour make sure to use a matte foundation or powder (No shimmer) and when you highlight you want to use a  shade or two lighter of foundation or powder.

Keep in mind that every face is different and we must fist determine your, your friends and your clients face shape to properly contour and highlight. I will be going into detail regarding that in later blogs and scopes. For now, I am going to simplify things by demonstrating a technique that compliments any face shape.

ContourUse a brown foundation or powder to contour temples, cheekbones, side of your nose to make the illusion of a thinner nose and forehead.
Highlight: Use a foundation or concealer that is 2-3 shades lighter than your skin color to highlight underneath your eyes, this helps to cover your dark circles too, bridge of your nose and extend pass your eyebrows to the center of your forehead.

If you are like me, I don't want to spend more 10 minutes on my makeup on a daily basis. Therefore I have taken this technique and have simplified it so it doesn't take me an hour to do every day but still adding dimension to my face. If you would like to learn how to place these colors on your face and add dimension quickly and effortlessly, join me every Saturday for a live tutorial were I show you this and many other makeup techniques.

Watch me live on Periscope from your phone or the web every Saturday at 12:45 PM PST. It's live so you will be able to ask questions on the spot. Hope you have enjoyed thisblog and see your on Saturday.
