Makeup Monday Tip: How to Color Correct with Makeup

Hello Beautiful,

Lately there has been a hype on correctors which is great if you need to correct certain areas and balance your skin tone. However, if you do not there is no need to apply additional product. Save same time and first determine if you need to use a corrector.

Sometimes, we run into an unwanted blemish, dark spots or dark under eye circles and knowing what product and shade to choose maybe a little overwhelming. With these helpful tips you will be one step closer to achieving a flawless face.

Concealing our imperfections is key to achieving a flawless face, that is why we must know how to correctly chose the appropriate shade.

Now here is where it gets a little tricky, you have to play attention when selecting correctors if they are necessary. You have to make sure the color is not strong where it will show through your make up and by that you have to test it out. For example if you are light skin and you go with a bright salmon color that is going to show through, go with a lighter shade of salmon. Again, go this route if you must. Your other option is to conceal your under eye circles by choosing a shade that is a shade or two lighter to your skin color.

If you are trying to conceal a blemish that is red, chose a green corrector this will cancel the red, this is were I highly recommend you use a corrector. Now if he blemish is not red select a shade that is the same color as your skin and blend the product on the edges to smooth out the bump.

Remember how I talked about the color wheel on my previous blog:  How to Combine Colors in Fashion and how you can use it when applying makeup? Well, this is a great example. When you want to conceal an imperfection but do not know what color cancels it, refer to  your color wheel.

Let me explain, lets go back to canceling a red blemish. Look for Red on the color wheel, now what is directly across? Green, right. So, this means that if you want to cancel red you must use green to do it.

Here are other color correctors that you can use to fix those unwanted imperfections we get once in a while.
  • Lavender covers sallowness ( yellow) in olive complexions
  • Salmon covers dark circles and uneven tones
  • Green covers redness (blemish)
  • Yellow covers blue or purple (veins) and warms fair skin

Always chose two tones of concealer, a lighter and one that matches your skin color or add your concealer first before applying  your foundation. This will neutralize and create and even flawless look to your face, after that you can set your concealer and foundation with a powder. I like to use a small sponge to tap my under eyes to make sure I set it right and smooths out any fine lines. I like to use MUFE (MakeupForever) HD Power (it has silicon which helps smooth one fine lines).

Pro Tip: Make sure to blend outwards/ downwards when smoothing out the concealer, remember not to rub.  You can also layer your concealer until you conceal the imperfection.

Hope this was helpful and you learned a little more about correcting those imperfections.
