Hello makeup lovers and welcome to #MakeupMondays were I share with you my favorite makeup tips.
For today's makeup Monday tip, I want to share a topic that I am very passionate about because it has to do with disinfecting your makeup and preventing cross contamination.
I think this topic is not talked about as much as it should be as it is very important not to cross contaminate specially if you are using your cosmetics products on other people. Rule of dumb is to have a small kit specially for your own use and a separate one that you use on your clients. If you do not want to do that then definitely keep on reading to ensure you are properly sanitizing your cosmetics.
I have to admit that I am a clean freak and need to sanitize my products before and after every use and the way I do that is by praying rubbing alcohol (use 90% or higher) on all of my cosmetics and cleaning the entire palette, tube, pencil you name it before and after a session. I will be demonstrating how I clean all of my products on this video:
Now if you are working with a large party and don't have the time to be a super cleaning machine there are a few ways you can prevent cross contamination between clients. The first thing is to switch brushes so you don't double dip when using eye shadows or simply spray the quad with alcohol after you are done with that client and let it dry while you clean your brushes for the next person. When using cream eye shadow, foundation, lip stick, blush, lip gloss or any type of cream product it is best to work with a makeup spatula and palette (it is super cheap click the link to see) and scoop the product out, it saves you time cleaning between clients. When using mascara I recommend investing in disposable mascara wands, no one wants an eye infection. Lastly clean your brushes between clients. I will be talking about that in a later post on how to properly clean your brushes.
I hope this was helpful and hope that you implement this into your cleaning routine from now if you are not doing it. If you have any questions feel free to send me an email.
Thank you!
Jenny A.
