Makeup Expiration Date: When to toss your makeup out

Hello Ladies,
It is #MakeupMonday and today I want to discuss the importance of tossing old make up out and making room for new ones. Did you know that just like milk, makeup also has an expiration date? When is the last time you checked on your cosmetics expiration date?
Most products have  dates stamped or printed on their packaging; however, you have to keep in mind the date that the product was opened. If it has a weird smell, it's discolored, is runny or lumpy that is an indication that it needs to be thrown out.
Anything that contains water or liquid has a shorter lifespan as it prone to growth of bacteria as opposed to powder products as they have a larger lifespan since these kind of products have minimal to no water at all.
To make thing simple I have made a list of the lifespan of the most used cosmetic products.
Please note to always check the packaging for an expiration date before you toss it out, unless the product has changed since you first opened it.
WHEN TO TOSS IT AWAY
  • Cream base makeup & Liquid - expires in 6 months to a 1 year
  • Powder base - 2 to  3 years
  • Lipstick - 2 years
  • Lip Gloss- 2 years
  • Nail polish - 1 year
  • Eyelash adhesive - 6 months or one it turns yellow or smells toss it away!!!!
  • Mascara - 3 to 6 months (Never pump your mascara wand as it pumps air in and dries your mascara faster. So swirl the wand around instead)
  • Eye and lip pencils - 3 years, make sure to sharpen after every use.
  • Eye and lip pencils - 3 years, make sure to sharpen after every use.
  • Blush and eye shadow - 2 to 3 years
Always keep in mind the color, consistency, smell packaging. Hope this was helpful and you remember to toss your old makeup away as we do not want any bacterial on our face or cosmetics.  Thank you for reading!

XOXO,

Jenny A.
